Signs You Should Consider Replacing Your Garage Door
July 23, 2024

When it comes to maintaining your home, it’s important to make any necessary repairs or replace malfunctioning components when they begin showing signs of problems. It can be easy to overlook some things, such as garage doors, until they start showing clear signs of trouble. Recognizing the first signs of a problem is crucial, as they can quickly escalate into more serious issues. Prompt garage door repair or replacement can save you the time, money, and stress associated with an unexpected or emergency situation. Act quickly at the first sign of a problem and keep your garage door working safely and efficiently. Let’s review some key indicators that it might be time to call in the professionals.

Excessive Noise

If your garage door makes more noise than usual while you’re operating it, you should act quickly to locate the source of the problem. Grinding, banging, or squeaking noises could indicate a variety of problems, such as worn parts or improper alignment. There could also be mechanical issues at play, which should be addressed as soon as possible. While unusual sounds are a nuisance, they can also indicate deeper problems, which can become dangerous if left to escalate. Contact a garage door professional to identify and correct the issue quickly.

Imbalance

Your garage door rests on a set of tracks; when it operates, it is supposed to move evenly across each track to remain level. If you notice that the door is off its tracks or hangs unevenly, it's a critical safety issue that needs immediate attention. This could be happening due to broken cables or damaged tracks and can prevent the door from operating correctly. It also puts the door at risk of overbalancing or collapsing unexpectedly, which is incredibly dangerous.

Slow Response Time

Your garage door should begin working immediately when you press the button on your opener. If you are seeing a noticeable delay between the moment you activate the opener and the moment that the door begins to move, it could suggest a variety of different problems. A professional garage door contractor can gauge whether the problem lies with the door’s mechanisms or with the opener itself.

Frequent Breakdowns

If you find that you are dealing with constant garage door issues, it might be a good idea to assess the situation. Simply fixing recurring issues over and over might not be the answer. Depending on the problem at hand, the issue may go beyond simple repairs and be difficult to rectify without replacing the door entirely. If you find yourself constantly fixing different parts of the door, it might be more cost-effective to choose to replace it.

Your Garage Door’s Age

Do you know when your door was installed? Most garage doors have a lifespan of about 15 to 30 years. If your door is nearing the end of this range and is beginning to experience multiple issues, replacement might be the more practical option. Not only will a new garage door provide better security and insulation, but it can also improve your property’s curb appeal and overall value.

2nd Annual Food Drive to benefit Lower Fairfield County Food Bank on November 23rd Norwalk, CT (November 7, 2013) – On Saturday, November 23, from 10 am - 2 pm, Ed’s Garage Doors at 136 Water Street in South Norwalk will host its 2nd Annual “Operation Turkey: Feeding Fairfield County Families” to help families in need this holiday season. Rich Cunningham, owner and president of Ed’s Garage Doors, established “Operation Turkey” in 2012 after seeing a local news story about the severe shortage of turkeys at local food banks, due in part to recovery efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Cunningham’s goal for 2013 is to surpass last year’s collection of more than 500 turkeys and over 500 pounds of non-perishable food. WEBE108 will be broadcasting live from the event from 10 am - 12 noon, and all attendees who bring a donation will be entered into a special giveaway on-site. “With our donation and generous gifts from our partners at LiftMaster and Northwest Door, we already have a jump start on last year’s collection,” said Cunningham. “And with WEBE108 broadcasting at the event this year, we anticipate increased community attendance and continued enthusiastic support for the cause.” “We’ve been part of the Norwalk community for more than 40 years,” added Cunningham. “We know how generous our neighbors can be, and we’re looking forward to helping The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County as they work to feed families for the holidays again this year.” The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County will have trucks on-site to accept all turkey and canned good donations. Monetary donations will also be accepted. 100% of all donated items will be delivered directly to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County and will be distributed to “in-need” residents this holiday season.
